Each Chapter was asked to prepare a banner on the SMC's theme
for this year
"Seeing the Light". Normally the banners are prepared by the Parents
Clubs. This year each banner had to be black and silver, feature Bert and Ernie,
and convey the SMC theme of "Seeing the Light".

Clayton's banner, which featured the pictures of all the active
members and real light bulbs embedded into the fabric, took 1st place in the
banner competition. It shows the friendship and enthusiasm of Bert and Ernie and
symbolizes the important role of brotherhood in helping members see the light of
DeMolay.

Mountain Park Chapter took 2nd place. Their banner featured the
DeMolay emblem in the center. The silver bands have the names of the Chapter
members written on them. Bert and Ernie are looking on. This depicts how
outsiders see the light of DeMolay through the actions of its members.

Samuel S. Lawrence's banner came in 3rd and featured the names
of the members stretched along a path illuminated by the seven cardinal virtues
of DeMolay: filial love, reverence for sacred things, courtesy, comradeship,
fidelity, cleanness and patriotism. The banner depicts how these virtues can
help today's youth make it through the storms of youth to the light of DeMolay.

Cecil Cheves Chapter's banner was three dimensional and featured
a light reflective crystal ball depicting how DeMolay can help the young members
see the right way to the future.

Don R. Roberts Chapter's banner depicted a lighthouse drawing
attention to "DeMolay Georgia" and proclaiming to the world that the
members are seeing the light! This was Don R. Roberts' first banner in many
years and it drew rounds of applause.

Middle Georgia Chapter's banner really illuminated the room with
its silver motif.
