Canned Food Drive
While DeMolay's primary purpose is leadership building, civic service can be a vital
part of a Chapter's activities. In addition, if properly promoted, the event can also bring
positive publicity to the Chapter. Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter in Marietta has been very
sucessful with its MUST Ministries Canned Food Drive each year. In addition to raising much-needed
food for needy families in the Chapter's area, the Chapter also publicized the event in order
to receive public recognition for its charitable efforts.
Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter began this project two years ago when State Sweetheart Jodie Bennett
had the Trick or Treat for Canned Food drive for MUST Ministries. The first year the chapter
collected almost 1000 cans, the second year they collected 500. This year, Master Councilor Geoff Bard
has set the goal at 2000 cans. Not only does this effort by the chapter collect much needed food
for the local food bank, but it has generated very favorable publicity for the Chapter.
Articles which ran in the Marietta Daily Journal can be viewed below. For more information
