  What Is DeMolay?

SMC's Corner

May 2010

Michael Benedetti

Greetings again Georgia DeMolay! It has been another successful week and time for another successful State Mater Councilor's Corner. This past week was quite a busy one for me. Balancing daily life with the duties for DeMolay is not always an easy thing. Between preparing for Spring Jam, The Masonic Ball, a York Rite Speech, and work, I found myself wondering if I would be able to complete everything. So far it has all worked out: a successful speech at York Rite, a great Spring Jam, and a happy boss at work, I just couldn't ask for more, and I look forward to a fantastic Masonic Ball next week.

Spring Jam this year was full of friendly competition and great sportsmanship. All the teams that came out and competed seemed to have a great time. We handed out our membership t-shirts which had the foam finger with the words of Just Bring One written on the hand, and had a full day of sports. From Flag Football to Putt Putt, there was something for everyone. Even with all the sports, bonfires, and movies going on, we still managed to have an initiation for four young men into DeMolay as well!

As I had said before, there was a lot of planning involved before hand, and I have to say I couldn't have done it with out some major help from my State Officers, State Chapter Dad, and the State Director of Events. All the events Georgia DeMolay puts on are in no way a one man show, and it shouldn't be this way on a chapter level either. Sometimes we forget that there are multiple people in this organization who can and want to help. I admit that even I have forgotten this from time to time as well, and in all honesty I have failed at task because of it. But, is it truly failing? The quote this week is by Malcolm Forbes, "Failure is success if we learn from it." My brothers I can not tell you just how true this is. Never be discouraged if something does not go according to plan, only realize that this is an opportunity to learn from the situation. Until next time!
