  What Is DeMolay?

DeMolay of the Month

Peter Bard - November 2003

Peter is all smiles.

Peter Bard, a member of Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter in Marietta, was selected as the Georgia DeMolay Online "DeMolay of the Month" for November 2003. Peter has been an active member of Georgia DeMolay since September 2002. He is currently the Senior Deacon of his chapter and holds the Representative DeMolay Award. We sat down with Peter to learn a little more about him....

GDO: Peter, congratulations on your selection as GDO's November DeMolay of the Month. We want our web site visitors to learn a little more about you and your DeMolay career. How did you find out about and get involved with DeMolay?

Peter: My dad got my brother, Geoff, to join, and I started hanging out with the guys at our house and at the Lodge. I liked the members of Samuel S. Lawrence, especially guys like Marcos, Adam, and Justin and wanted to become part of the organization.

GDO: What do you like best about DeMolay?

SMC Chris Eells recognizes Peter for
earning the Representative DeMolay Award.

Peter: I like getting to meet brothers from all over. We attended DeMolay International in Buffalo last year where I got to meet the International Master Councilor and Congress Secretary. I also enjoy our activities and events, it's really cool getting to go so many different places.

GDO: You're new to DeMolay, yet your level of ritualistic excellence is extremely high. What advice would you give to other younger DeMolays trying to learn ceremonial parts?

Peter: I would say take it slow, concentrate on learning your queries first. My advisors told me when I joined that you need to learn to walk before you can run. After your queries, learn the part for your office for opening and closing and then degree parts. I would urge all members to concentrate and participate in as many tournaments as possible. Competing in the ceremonies of DeMolay will only make you a better ritualist.

GDO: What are your goals for your future in DeMolay?

Peter: I would like to earn the Blue Honor Key. I just brought in my first 2 petitions, and it is really fun getting your friends to join DeMolay. It is going to be great to help initiate them into Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter and go to chapter events with them. Later, I would like to become Master Councilor of my chapter and try to earn the PMC-MSA. My brother and my Dad have both earned that award.

EO Marc Bohn presents Peter
with a Preceptor Award at TOC.

GDO: Outside of DeMolay, what are some of your other interests and activities?

Peter: I play the Cello in my school orchestra, I like competitive swimming, and I enjoy video games.

GDO: Thank you for your time, Peter, and congratulations again on your selection as GDO's DeMolay of the Month!

Peter: Thank you very much. I hope to prove myself deserving of this honor.
