Justin Nobles, a member of Samuel S. Lawrence Chapter in Marietta,
was named Georgia's DeMolay of the Year at last month's Conclave. In this month's
special DeMolay of the Year editon of the Georgia DeMolay Online DeMolay of the
Month feature, we focus on the achievements of the top DeMolay in the state for this
past year. Justin has been an active member of DeMolay since February of 1998. He
served as State Master Councilor in 2001-2002 and is currently finishing up his
term as Region III Coordinator for the seven-state Southeastern US DeMolay Region.
He holds the Degree of Chevalier, the Blue Honor Key, the Founder's Membership Award,
and the Representative DeMolay Award. He currently attends Georgia State University.
We sat down with our DeMolay of the Year to learn a little more about him....
GDO:
Justin, congratulations on your selection as GDO's August DeMolay
of the Month. We want our web site visitors to learn a little more
about you and your DeMolay career. How did you find out about and get
involved with DeMolay?
Justin:
That's a long one. I'll give you the Reader's Digest version: My family
has been very active with the Masonic family. Just to put it all into
context, my grandfather belongs to a lodge in Southern California and
my grandmother is a Past Worthy Mason from her Eastern Star Chapter
in Southern California. My aunt is a Job's Daughter and is a Past
DeMolay Chapter Princess. Finally, my father is a Senior DeMolay from
Orange County, California. I've been around the Masonic family all of
my life, thus, I have heard of DeMolay all of my life. It wasn't,
however, until I started travelling down the wrong path of life that
I was kinda "forced" into this glorious Order. But anyone can "join"
and not be involved. My true "involvement" came after my first Conclave,
after seeing all of the old state officers. There was just an aura to
them. I remember thinking, "That's what I want to do." To be honest,
I really cannot see myself how I was one of the older state officers.
It blows my mind how much of an impact my actions have on the younger
DeMolays. It's hard to believe.

Justin is very popular with the ladies!

GDO:
What do you like best about DeMolay?
Justin:
There are so many facets to DeMolay that it makes it extremely difficult
to pick just one think I like best. But, if I were held at gunpoint and
asked just to choose one, I'd have to say the comradery that we all have
for one another. I met some of my best and most loyal friends that I would
not have met if it hadn't been for DeMolay. It's also not too often that a
19 year old has good friends that are 12 or 13 years old. You don't find
that nowadays.
GDO:
You were recently named the Georgia DeMolay of the Year. It's quite
an honor; congratulations. Tell us about how you felt when your name
was called at the Conclave Grand Banquet.
Justin:
To be honest, everyone wishes that their name is called when they
announce the award. But I was truthfully suprised. There were several
people that deserved the award, and I really didn't know if I'd get
it. I remember my first couple of Conclaves seeing the award winners,
and again, I was like, "Man, I wish I could get that award." It's just
now sinking in.
GDO:
A lot of hard work went in to this past year for you. Tell us a bit
about what you've done at the Chapter, State, and Regional level this
year.

Justin:
Wow...that's a tough one. I've always remained loyal to my chapter.
While we're on the subject... I wanna give a shoutout to my home
chapter SSL... you guys rule. Anyways, I always try to be there for
my chapter, and I've always told the MC's to call upon me for help.
And they've remembered. On a state-wide level, I just try to be there
for the state officers. I've always been a firm believer in being able to spread
the knowledge that I've attained to the future leaders. There's just
so much to be expected of you as a state officer, and to be able to help
younger SO's makes me realize that the knowledge I've learned while
being in their footsteps won't go to waste. Regionally, I really haven't
done as mush as I would have liked to. There's just so much to be done.
But I do feel that the brotherhood within the Region has gotten stronger
since I have been Coordinator. I've travelled to other jurisdiction's
Conclaves and State Events. I've just tried to have fun. Besides, that's
what DeMolay is meant to be. Fun.
GDO:
The Region III Conference is coming up very soon. As Region III
Coordinator, you're very much involved in the planning of this seven
state event. What's in store for the weekend?
Justin:
It's going to be a "BLAST." We have a lot in store for the weekend.
First of all, it's being held in Pensacola, Florida which is just a
beautiful city, and I'm looking forward to that. There's going to
be business meetings, which are a part of DeMolay. However, we're
just looking to have fun as well. It's going to be a truly
enjoyable weekend, and I'm looking forward to the comradery and
brotherhood and fellowship that's in store for the weekend.

Always willing to take one for the team, Justin makes good on a bet to shave his head if enough money is raised for the American Red Cross.

GDO:
Your term as Region III Coordinator is almost over. What are your
goals for your future in DeMolay after your term?
Justin:
Well, I hope to become more active on the state level... behind the
scenes, though. I've been asked by our Director of Education, Dad
Griggers, to be apart of a committee to redevelop several more Georgia
Leader's Academies. I don't know what I can and cannot tell you
about them. What I can say, though, is that they are going to be a
crucial tool to really help Georgia DeMolay boom, and I'm looking
forward into being apart of their development.
GDO:
You're attending Georgia State University. What's your major, and
what would you like to do when you get your degree?
Justin:
Officially my major is Political Science. However, I want to focus
my major toward the legal aspect of Poli-Sci, so I'm hoping to get
accepted into a new degree program that most colleges offer called
an Interdisciplinary Degree. Basically, it's a degree that takes
several different majors and rolls them into one. The one I'm
interested in is called an Interdisciplinary Degree with a focus
on Law and Society. It's a degree with Poli Sci, History, and
English all rolled into one. I'm looking forward to it. Eventually,
I hope to attend law school and use the degree to go behind the
scenes of politics. Not to be on the front line, but to be a
consultant or analyst of some sort. I enjoy politics, and it's
definitely something I'm interested in focusing my career in.

Did we mention he can dance, too?
|
GDO:
Outside of DeMolay, what are some of your other interests and
activities?
Justin:
Like I mentioned before, I enjoy Politics. If my television isn't
tuned into CSPAN, it usually has a movie of some sort playing on it.
I am a HUGE fan of movies and books. I enjoy spending time with my
friends, all of whom are in DeMolay, and enjoying the company of my
family. You may not be able to tell yet, but you will later, I
have just gotten into the habit of working out and I'm really
enjoying that.
GDO:
Thank you for your time, Justin, and congratulations again on your
selection as GDO's DeMolay of the Month and as the Georgia DeMolay of
the Year!
Justin:
Thank you, and "I want to thank all of you little people I had to
step on to get where I am." No, in all seriousness, I really appreciate
this honor that I have been given, and I hope that in some small way
my work in DeMolay has inspired the younger DeMolays, just as the older
DeMolays have inspired me to become what I am.
